Science fiction plays a complex role in the modern world, accurately predicting trends or inspiring fans of a particular work to make its vision a reality. The Instagram account Blade Runner Reality, which catalogues photos of the real world that mirror Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi-noir film Blade Runner, is a bit of a combination of both.
Its two dedicated editors have been uploading a picture a day, alongside quotes from the script, since September 2014. The resulting collection captures the myriad influences and moods that have made Scott's master-work a cult classic.
It’s a dystopian vision that many of us in the 21st century happily call home: claustrophobic urban environments teetering on decay and collapse; rain-soaked, neon-lit streets turning night into perpetual day; and saturated in-screen media advertising. Don’t like it? Blame Hollywood.
