Germany’s Old and New Bowling Alleys

Robert Götzfried’s keen eye for culture and kitsch has found expression through everything from snapshots of German pipe organs to gas stations of southern USA.

More recently he’s turned his eye and lens towards the ‘kegelbahnen’ – venues for the traditional German bowling game of kegeln.

The series spans decades, with the bahnen from the 60s, 70s and 80s appearing to have changed hardly at all, as if trapped in time.

The older alleys seem to really trump the newer versions when it comes to charm... but then there are those that look eerily like the lane from the disturbing closing scene of There Will Be Blood
