Thirsty Thursday: Lord Nelson Brewery

You usually prefer one over the other: Bret or Jemaine, Liam or Noel, ketchup or mustard. But dare we say Australian craft brewer Lord Nelson makes two siblings - Three Sheets and Lord Admiral - that rival each other for best in show.

The Lord Nelson is one of Sydney's oldest craft brewers, and one of its best. The beautiful old sandstone corner pub opened its doors in 1841, and since 1985 it's also been where Lord Nelson brewery makes all-natural ales (no added sugars, preservatives, or additives). These are served on tap in-house, and complemented by tasty pub grub.

All the ales are worth sampling, and far from being runts of the litter, the two brews widely available in local bottle shops are both delicious. If you can't decide and you can't afford both, we'd suggest the Admiral's heavy amber ale for winter, and the bright, tasty Three Sheets for summer. Anchors away.
