Bukowski's Worst Hangover

Wednesday September 12, 2012 Written by luke

Charles Bukowski was a man who gave hope to us all; despite his almost crippling alcoholism he was still one of the most significant artists of a generation.

"This [alcohol] is going to help me for a very long time," he once wrote, and that it did, remaining one of the constants in a life marked by itinerancy, one-night stands, a decade in a pickle factory, literary success, failure and an endless succession of hangovers. Bukowski was a gifted raconteur, in the way that drunks sometimes are, and here he tells the story of the worst hangover he ever had. Coming from him, you know that's not a claim made lightly.
