It wasn’t too long ago that this impressive seaside home was condemned as uninhabitable, such was the precariousness of its position on the shores of Hatteras Island, North Carolina. Nicknamed Serendipity, the home couldn’t even be saved by its appearance in the 'weeper' film Nights in Rodanthe, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. And if that couldn’t save it, surely nothing could?
Incredibly, before it could be pulled asunder by one of the frequent and ferocious Hatteras Island storms, the house was bought in 2009 and was resettled to a new plot up the road – an undertaking that required a generously-sized trailer, the temporary removal of powerlines, and considerable traffic management.
