Looking back, it was clear it was only a matter of time until industrial designers took their cues from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Meet the ösa, from Swedish motorbike company CAKE. Yes, it’s an electric moped – but it’s not just an electric moped. The design is deliberately modular. Simply twist and slide things around and ösa can transform into a small but serviceable workbench. Keep twisting and other things appear: extra seats, baskets, racks and minimalist storage solutions.
You can even run battery-powered kitchen appliances through ösa – which makes it potentially the world’s smallest and most portable kitchen. A kitchen that’s been clocked at 50 kp/h. You can also charge ösa straight from the power point (CAKE estimates it’ll take about three hours) and the bike will retail for about $8,000 USD. Considering the savings you’ll make on marble bench tops and ceramic splashbacks, this sounds like a no-brainer.
