If the boppy Russian folk theme song wasn’t enough of a reminder, Lithuanian designer Lukas Valiauga is here to sternly reinforce the fact of Tetris's Soviet roots. His Android app Tower Block Game swaps out the original’s tetromino blocks for Eastern European apartment blocks. It’s apt: much like Tetris, Soviet-era urban planning was stressful, impossible to ‘win’ and likely to haunt your dreams.
“This game is a playful tribute to a not so playful reality of monotonous and bleak cityscapes built out of same prefabricated concrete blocks,” Valiauga explains. “Perfect for architecture students!” claims a Google Play Store reviewer.
