Living in the Trees

Not content with having one of the coolest names we've come across, Foster Huntington has built a dream home in the trees that is part Peter Pan's Lost Boys, part Ewok village.

The lofted structure consists of two 60-square-metre rooms connected by a wooden bridge, raised high on Douglas fir trees with a wood-fired hot tub and skate bowl on the ground below.

The minimalist result crosses the small living movement with childhood fantasy. It took Huntington and friends around a year and $200,000 to design and build the unique abode, which he has christened the Cinder Cone.

Huntington has had previous viral success with his Burning House project, which asked what items you would take if your house burnt down, and his three-year #vanlife sojourn, which he commenced after quitting a coveted Ralph Lauren designer job in Manhattan. He is now fundraising to turn his treehouse-building process into a book, to allow others to follow suit.
