Some Dark Genius Has Turned 'Red Right Hand' into A Dr Seuss Book

More often than not, we don’t want the cultural icons of our childhood or teenage years reimagined. CGI Thunderbirds? No thanks. A Gen-Y Smashing Pumpkins line-up? Not for us.

But a Melbourne illustrator named Dr Faustus has managed to combine icons from both periods and somehow improve, rather than diminish, both. Pairing the darkly evocative lyrics of Nick Cave’s ‘Red Right Hand’ with the cartoonish visuals of Dr Seuss’s Cat in the Hat, Faustus has created a dreamy fusion of each artist’s work that reads like it was always the intended text.

And though it seems at first glance like it shouldn’t work, it’s not entirely surprising that it does: both Cave’s and Seuss’s creations walk a fine line between romance and nightmare, where simplicity and innocence meet chaos and ambiguity. For maximum moodiness, make sure you play Cave’s track while reading.
