Melting Azerbaijani Rugs

No, Shelbyville hasn’t spiked your water supply – Azerbaijani sculptor Faig Ahmed is just messing with your head.

The 34-year-old artist uses a mix of traditional and modern textile methods to create classic Azerbaijani rugs, which he then distorts to make them look like they’re melting, glitching or somehow being warped by the fabric of spacetime itself.

Or as the bio on his website puts it, “he disassembles their conventional structure and randomly rearranges the resulting components of the traditional composition then combines these fragments with contemporary sculptural forms”. Yeah, what they said.
