Morgan Phillips, aka the Sucklord, makes bootlegged action figures for a living. But they’re more than just knock-offs: they’re works of (very freaky) art.
Based in New York City, in a Chinatown studio known as the “Suckhole”, Phillips takes the classic plastic figurines of your childhood, rips them apart and rebuilds them in surprising – often NSFW – ways. They’re almost certainly riddled with I.P. violations – many of his characters were clearly once Star Wars or Marvel figures –but by reconfiguring them so provocatively, Phillips’ manages to remix pop culture into some kind of political commentary. More importantly, though: his creations just look cool. (Which is why they fetch some serious cash.)
