On the up

At first glance Adam Ondra is a guy who looks more suited to building mainframes than climbing boulders, but he happens to be one of the best climbers in the world.

A doco about the 19-year-old Czech, The Wizard's Apprentice, was released a couple of weeks ago, which features some of his epic attempts at bouldering and lead climbing.

In general, most climbs are allocated a grade to indicate their difficulty (1 for walking, 4 for steep hiking, 6 for aid climbing only etc). Every country's grading system is slightly different, but Adam is tackling 9a climbs. That's pants-wetting stuff no matter how you look at it.

A lot of the film's footage has been pre-released online, check here.
