Alone in the Wilderness

Bob Swerer Sr. is an outdoorsman first and filmmaker second. Based at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Bob Sr’s films (which he makes with his son, Bob Swerer Jr.) document the wild just outside his doorstep and the frozen Alaskan ‘beyond’.

It was through these films that we discovered Richard (Dick) Proenneke, a solitary man who lived in Alaska’s remote wilderness for over 30 years.

We wrote about Dick’s story in Smith Journal volume one, but these shorts from the films - accompanied by Dick’s personal musings - say more than we ever could. Watch a short from Alone in The Wilderness part one here, and jump to Bob's YouTube page to see part two.
