Astro Yo-Yo

15 Aug by basil

When picturing an astronaut you generally envisage a guy in a white suit repairing equipment or walking in slow mo. But playing with a yo-yo in zero-G? Now that's more like it.

Don Petit is NASA astronaut on the International Space Station. In his down time, he practices his microgravity yo-yo tricks and performs wacky space experiments.

Because he's in space, and he can, Petit names his space station yo-yo tricks quite appropriately: 'Shoot the Planets' and 'The Asteroid' are favourites. Petit explains the physics behind the yo-yo tricks and hopes this knowledge, combined with yo-yo tricks will "impress the gals". Either way, we were certainly impressed by his version of 'Around the World'.
