There's something immediate and intimate about the work of Melbourne photographer Andrew Theodore Johnson, even when he's taking shots of abandoned cars in the middle of the Northern Territory.

His framing and sense of contrast draws you in, placing you in the middle of whatever fragment of life he's touring right then.

Spare, ever so slightly saturated and with a knack for capturing the sometimes strange interplay of the individual in their landscape, his are experiential, confessional shots – postcards from the details and travels of his own life – that manage to read as so much more than a mere high-gloss Instagram account. This is the joy and wonder of mundanity as it was meant to be done: strange, unexpected and occasionally very funny.
