If we were to say the words ‘New York in the 1980s’, what images would come to mind? American Psycho-esque Wall Street men? Keith Haring? A graffiti-scrawled subway?
If you answered the latter, this collection of photos of the New York subway from – you guessed it – the 1980s, should be a real treat. Taken by Swiss photographer Willy Spiller and recently published on Fubiz, they’re a reminder of what the city was like before Giuliani cleaned everything up.
Kids hanging off carriages? Tick. Tired cops doing their best to look mean? Of course. And graffiti? So much graffiti. The series is aptly titled 'Hell on Wheels', and you can check it out over here.
