Pop Up Patch

03 Oct by luke

We've become a bit disconnected from the business of growing food. With a supermarket every few hundred metres and the fact that most backyards are so small you can barely swing a carrot, it seems little wonder we've given up on the whole dirty business.

The Little Veggie Patch Co is calling bullshit on all that.

Founded by Matthew Pember and Fabian Capomolla, the Melbourne-based outfit is dedicated to building and maintaining edible, organic vegetable gardens in the most unlikely urban spaces. Their next project involves setting up a Pop Up Patch in Federation Square, where subscribers can stake out a small square of dirt for 12 months and grow a seasonal array of veggies in the middle of the city.

The gardens will be staffed by folk knowledgable in such matters and open between 6am and 10pm the full year round, meaning that no matter what hours you keep, a full-blown vegetable patch is within your reach. The Pop Up Patch opens on October 12, so if you fancy your own register here.

The Little Veggie Patch Co was featured in Smith volume two. It's currently sold out, but you can pick up a digi copy here.
