Tiny homes don’t come much tinier than the Camper Kart – a one-person pop-up sleeper made out of recycled materials and affixed to a shopping trolley. American artist Kevin Cyr came up with the idea after reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, and successfully crowdfunded his way to construction.
Like his Camper Bike – which we described last year as “simultaneously the coolest and stupidest thing we've seen someone do with a bike” – the Camper Kart is more of an art project than it is a serious solution to housing. As an artist, Cyr is concerned with asking questions rather than answering them. He hopes the Kart, which he calls a “functioning sculptural piece,” will fuel discussion around mobility, affordable housing and self-reliance. We hope so, too – anything to take our minds off The Road.
