Sergio is a Spaniard and we like him. We like him a lot. We like him so much we asked him to whip up a heap of illustrations.
His work is completely charming; there's a warmth and fuzziness about it that sticks. Since completing his fine arts degree in Valencia, Sergio has been creating artwork for music posters, CD covers, advertising, clothing, set design and children's books. He's produced pieces for big name clients including Die Zeit, Bust Magazine, Amelia's Magazine and of course, the second volume of yours truly.
His bold illustrations sometimes verge on whimsical, but always have a folk sensibility about them. This might stem from Sergio's efficient use of simple shapes and pattern, his love of pastels and his quirky experimentation with the human shape, particularly faces and hands. Check out more of his work here.
Sergio's illustrations are featured in Smith volume two. It's sold out, but you can pick up a digi copy here.
