Paul Mawhinney's Record-Rama

24 Sep by smith

In an expansive warehouse outside of Pittsburgh sits the million-strong record library of Paul Mawhinney – the largest such collection on Earth.

A labour more than four decades in the making, Mawhinney is now in the process of selling the whole thing (if you have a spare $3 million...). We took the opportunity to talk to him about the origins of his collection, the records that mean the most to him and his (potential) role in kick-starting David Bowie's U.S. career. You can find the interview in the latest print volume, but in the meantime this video by Jeff Staple should give you a sense of what was discovered.

Paul Mawhinney is featured in "The Record Holder" in Smith volume four. Find your closest stockist here, buy volume four here, or subscribe here.
