Junk mail, as the manifestation of our information and material overload, is one of modern times' most maligned creations. Artist, Amanda Nelsen sees things differently. For her, junk mail is a unique textural tool ripe with fertile creative possibilities
Amanda hails from America where 43% of all mail is 'direct' or 'advertising'; so like a beaver or bower bird she collected it up and built a staggering Kinkade Recycled (Mountain Retreat) installation.
Consisting of over 40,000 folded and bound envelopes, arranged in an artfully shifting colour spectrum, it's a neat statement on taking control of the out of control.
