Brain Aid 2012

25 Sep by smith

In Smith's maiden volume we profiled the relationship between 20-something brothers: Daniel and David Montoya. When David was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2008, Daniel dropped out of uni to be with him full time, accompanying him around the world as they searched for alternative treatments.

Despite a long and hope-filled fight, earlier this year David passed away. As a tribute to David, Daniel has been keeping his Amigos of Dave project running, aiming to raise funds for other people working through Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).

Tomorrow night from 6pm he and fellow organisers are throwing a party to announce the winners of the Brain Aid 2012 exhibition at Black Coffee Lyrics café on the Gold Coast.

It's a chance to see exceptional work from a handful of talented young Queensland artists, as well as raise money for the Willowbank Studio, a not-for-profit retreat aimed at building creative opportunities for people with ABIs. The three winners will also have their work included in a limited-edition run from This is a Plain Tee. So, if you're in the area, come down, have a drink and celebrate the memory and legacy of a brother and a mate.
