David Attenborough lives the stuff of our kid (and adult) dreams. This time he's trekking through the polar ice caps and into the frozen wilderness of Alaska and Antarctica for Frozen Planet.
The seven-part series travels through the world's coldest and harshest regions, taking in the wildlife, the landforms and the fragile wonder.
Structured by season, each episode documents how the climate affects the environment and its inhabitants. Highlights - as always - are wildlife related. Frozen Planet has penguins, killer whales and polar bear babies. There's also a mind-blowing wolf vs. bison moment.
Special features include the 'Freeze Frame' (or 'making of') add ons at the end of each chapter, which are nearly as awesome as the episodes themselves. Here, Attenborough's team describe the highs and lows of working on the series. (These include the mental exhaustion of watching penguins for months on end, and icy encounters with curious killer whales.)
In a time when the polar regions are changing, the series is both an important historical record and incredible doco of life in the great beyond.
The DVD series comes out on December 15th and we have five copies to give away. Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your name and address to enter. We'll try and get Santa to drop one off before the 25th.
